Bad Ragaz to host training camp ahead of the Football World Cup

The Saudi Arabia national football team is setting up its training camp at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz from 19 May to 6 June 2018 to prepare for this year’s Football World Cup in Russia. The team will be accompanied by an about 70-strong entourage which includes not only a large number of advisers and coaching staff, but also media representatives from Saudi Arabia.

The team around president Adel Ezzat and manager Juan Antonio Pizzi is using the training camp to get in shape for the opening game of the Football World Cup against host nation Russia. Saudi Arabia’s group at the World Cup, which takes place from 14 June to 15 July 2018, also includes Egypt and Uruguay as well as Russia.

The Argentinian Juan Antonio Pizzi brings a great deal of international experience to the Saudi Arabia team. Having previously played for the Spanish national team, he knows how to play in a World Cup.

During its two-and-a-half-week stay at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, the team will principally train at the Ri-Au sports ground in Bad Ragaz, but also at the stadium in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. However, this will be mainly behind closed doors at both sites. The public can look forward to two friendly matches which will take place in St. Gallen: against Italy on 28 May 2018 and against Peru on 3 June 2018.

The high profile of Europe’s Leading Wellbeing & Medical Health Resort in the Middle East was undoubtedly a factor in the national team’s choice of venue: “It’s a great honour for us to host the national team. Our staff are delighted to be preparing to welcome the footballers. Out of all the enquiries, our first-choice team was Saudi Arabia: the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz appreciates guests from the Arab world. They enjoy the unique surroundings of the Heidiland region, the infrastructure of our resort and in particular the comprehensive care available at our Medical Center,” said Patrick Vogler, CEO of the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz.

Bad Ragaz as a football destination

Over the past few years, Bad Ragaz has increasingly been making a name for itself in the football world as a venue with first-class training facilities. The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz has already hosted club teams such as Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool FC and VfL Wolfsburg as well as the national teams of Spain, Russia, Portugal and Greece.

There are an increasing number of enquiries from teams all around the world, and it is for this reason that the Executive Board of the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz AG decided to establish football as a new business area. “In consultation with the municipality and the canton, we are involved in plans to build our own top-level international football training center. We would like to implement this project as quickly as possible so that we can welcome our first visiting teams to our on-site facilities in 2019,” commented Patrick Vogler on the project.
