New Concept in Hotel Schloss Wartenstein

12.07.18

A new concept in Hotel Schloss Wartenstein’s restaurant high above Bad Ragaz: Alpine Tapas served in «Family Style» by restaurant host Dominic Tobler. Vegetables, meat and fish, all in tiny portions meant for sharing. «Of course every guest can eat their own way through the menu,» he says with a twinkle in his eye, «but it’s much more fun with several people.»

The restaurant in Hotel Schloss Wartenstein is simultaneously traditional and modern, long standing and highly topical. Lace and starched table cloths are a thing of the past, nobody is a fan of old fashioned any more. Instead: an appearance befitting of the time – with ingredients sourced mainly from the region which are served up in surprising combinations all on small plates.

The restaurant is a popular stop for refreshments, with its concept and views, for mountain hikers and for the people who take the post van up to this height. And while eating, the spectacular view over the whole of idyllic Bad Ragaz and the surrounding mountains is thrown in for free. In summer the view can be enjoyed from the restaurant’s large terrace.

Guests not only eat well in Schloss Wartenstein but can also enjoy a night in comfort. The ten rooms are individually and lovingly styled with something for every guest: from the sleek single room for business guests to the romantic double room for couples. A particular highlight is the tower room, located at the highest point of the castle, accessed only by a turned staircase and boasting a marvellous view across the surrounding area. And the fairytale double room «Wartenstein» with its four-poster bed and bay window from which you can admire the glory of the region.

Schloss Wartenstein is not only attractively decorated on the interior, it also has an extensive garden which is beautifully planted and boasts a unique view across the ruins of Burg Wartenstein, the castle originating in the 12th Century. For those wishing to hold big celebrations, there is the option of hiring the hall and being grandly hosted by Dominic Tobler. Those wishing to just pay a short visit, on the other hand, can enjoy a drink or pre-dinner aperitif in the cosy snug in front of the fireplace.

Tobler says, «We do of course have the usual suspects on offer, but there are three key signature cocktails, all different, and all with their own fans: the «Western Standard», «Schloss Picante» and «Lime, Lime, Lime».

For several years now Hotel Schloss Wartenstein has been part of Grand Resort Bad Ragaz’s portfolio, but is not classified in the star rating. Guests of the hotel with its individually appointed rooms and unforgettable setting and the new culinary offering, also get entry to the Tamina Therme included in their booking.
