Tamina Lumina winter light exhibition

The former laundry house, one of the oldest buildings at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, will be bathed in light from 24 November 2018 to 12 January 2019. The first edition of the Tamina Lumina winter multimedia light exhibition will breathe new life into the listed building for seven weeks. Following the success of the Light Ragaz exhibition in the Tamina gorge last summer, Bad Ragaz is going to be bathed in colourful light this winter.

The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is one of the locations where the first Tamina Lumina begins on 24 November 2018. The exhibition will run until 12 January 2019. Just like Light Ragaz, which once again proved popular during its second edition this summer, Tamina Lumina will be a production that combines light and storytelling. The organizers are planning to present an interplay between magic and technology for the upcoming Tamina Lumina.

The first winter edition of the Light Ragaz light exhibition will bring the disused old laundry house at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz back to life. Erected in the seventeenth century, the building began life as a mill, and was later used as a central laundry house for the hotels that today form the Grand Resort. It is now a listed building, and was used as a laundry house until 2008. Tamina Lumina will breathe new life into this stately old building, which will become the largest room in Switzerland whose entire floor and walls are illuminated. This room – the source of life – offers visual and physical interactions in a completely immersive world. It is an interplay between magic and technology – the gateway to another world. Visitors to the source of life will lose any conception of space and time and enjoy the here and now, living in the moment.

Behind the scenes of Tamina Lumina, modern video mapping techniques (a process in which a projector is used to project images onto any surface) on buildings and the natural landscape are combined with traditional light installations. This is all made possible by cutting-edge technology.

One of the things visitors to Tamina Lumina can experience is the huge flood that hit Bad Ragaz in 1762, during which dozens of houses were washed away and cellars and stables were filled with debris and rubble from the Tamina gorge. And, as part of the light spectacle, they can also head out to search for the lost child and discover the story of the young Paracelsus. Visitors will accompany Paracelsus as he tragically falls into the roaring waters of the Tamina and his subsequent incredible journey to the warm spring. Over the course of seven weeks, Tamina Lumina will bathe the spa resort of Bad Ragaz in a sea of light.

For those who would like to combine the spectacular display of Tamina Lumina with a stay at Europe’s leading wellbeing and medical health resort, the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz has put together a Tamina Lumina Special package, starting from CHF 460.– per room per night and available to book from 23 November to 20 December 2018:
